A blend made famous in the Northern Rhône Valley in France, this Shiraz Viognier is a recent and popular edition to the Yarra Burn range.
A medium bodied, finely textured wine with rich berry and spice characters. The Shiraz captures distinct regional elements of chocolate, cloves spice and blueberries, when blended with the Viognier bringing excellent floral lift and bright fruit to the nose and also creaminess to the palate.
Colour
Brilliant crimson in colour, with cherry red hue.
Aroma
There are aromas of bright fresh, primary fruit, inky blueberry and ripe raspberry, with white pepper and cinnamon spice. The nose opens up with classic cool climate Shiraz perfume and violet notes.
Palate
With a silky, plush, velvety entry onto the palate, this wine shows lovely ripe, even tannin structure. The lift and additional palate sweetness from the Viognier contribution shows through. With good density and fruit weight, plus excellent persistence of flavour, the wine also opens up nicely with decanting, which is a good sign for the longevity, or cellaring potential, of the wine.
Food Matching
Enjoy with roast duck with orange zest, venison sausages, braised lamb shanks or rare lamb cutlets with rosemary.
Altitude and style define the very essence of Yarra Burn wines. It is on the steep slopes of the Yarra Valley that the Yarra Burn wines begin, with every hillside offering its own nuances of style and character. Grape varieties are matched to their ideal conditions, then tended with vigilance and precision, creating intensely flavoured fruit of rich complexity.
History
The Yarra Burn winery was a pioneer of the Upper Yarra over 30 years ago. In fact, it was at Yarra Burn that founders David and Christine Fyffe produced the very first Yarra Valley sparkling, as well as one of the first Sauvignon Blanc Semillon blends in Australia. And this innovative thinking continues at the winery today.
Region
Winemaker for Yarra Burn since 1999, Mark’s passion for making great wines is evident in everything he does. Yarra Burn has given him the perfect avenue to achieve this, with sparkling and cool climate wines that showcase the Yarra Valley at its finest.
