Winery Tasting Notes

The Merlot variety is a favourite to some and just `too light` to others. This wine is intentionally made as a light early drinking style red and is only fermented on skins for 5 days. This is long enough to extract a crimson hue and subtle furits characters leaving astringent tannins behind.

Bright crimson

Lifted cherry and plum aromatics with a slight vanillan oak flavours as a result of American oak maturation. Light tannin background with a fruit driven finish.

Food Matching

Winery Profile

Yarran Wines is a family owned and operated winery. The vineyards, winery and cellar door are all located in Yenda, NSW. Yenda is part of the Riverina region, the area has a long tradition for winemaking dating back to 1913 and is well reknowned for producing world class high quality wines.

Fruit has been grown on the family vineyard for 30 years, an interest to create wine from a viticultural background was developed as one of the owners began a oenology degree. The family business has since grown from producing a single Shiraz in 1998 to many different varietal table wines, rich fortified blends and also a classic Riverina Botrytis style wine (Noble Rot).

The winemaking philosophy behind the wines has evolved over time with each vintage being finely tuned to deliver the highest quality wines to our customers. Creative winemaking coupled with a strong commitment to expressing regional style has been a rewarding mix. Each vintage our wines continue to be of a high standard and have gathered exciting accolades and reviews. We are always trying something a little less mainstream each year, attempting to challenge ourselves and delivering wines with an extra element and character to the market place.
