Expert Reviews

Light straw-green; hand-picked at night and whole bunch-pressed, a very expensive pathway for a wine at this price, but has paid a handsome dividend, with a floral bouquet and a tropical edge to the pear of the palate; the mouthfeel and balance are also impressive.

Rating 89 - Drink by 2013 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion (AUG/2012)

Winery Tasting Notes

A delicate and light style showing pear and tropical fruit aromatics with crisp, citrus finish. A fresh and zesty style, perfect wine on a warm summer day.

Food Matching

A great wine to match with seafoods such as garlic and chilli prawns.

Winemaking Note

Pinot Grigio is an Italian grape variety that thrives under the warm and dry growing conditions the local area offers. The fruit is picked in the cool of the night and pressed immediately without crushing, this process is undertaken when cold and as quickly as possible so the pink colour in the skins of the berries is not transferred into the juice.

Winery Profile

Yarran Wines is a family owned and operated winery. The vineyards, winery and cellar door are all located in Yenda, NSW. Yenda is part of the Riverina region, the area has a long tradition for winemaking dating back to 1913 and is well reknowned for producing world class high quality wines.

Fruit has been grown on the family vineyard for 30 years, an interest to create wine from a viticultural background was developed as one of the owners began a oenology degree. The family business has since grown from producing a single Shiraz in 1998 to many different varietal table wines, rich fortified blends and also a classic Riverina Botrytis style wine (Noble Rot).

The winemaking philosophy behind the wines has evolved over time with each vintage being finely tuned to deliver the highest quality wines to our customers. Creative winemaking coupled with a strong commitment to expressing regional style has been a rewarding mix. Each vintage our wines continue to be of a high standard and have gathered exciting accolades and reviews. We are always trying something a little less mainstream each year, attempting to challenge ourselves and delivering wines with an extra element and character to the market place.
