Expert Reviews

I bet Yalumba would love to trademark the brilliant green sheen it has in its young white wines - and in this case also the amount of apricot or peach varietal expression and texture at this price point. It's at its best now.

Wine Background

The Yalumba Y Series of quality wines salutes our proud history of viticulture and winemaking in South Australia. Significantly, the individual icons on each label reflect the labours, inventive thinking and aspirations of all at Yalumba.

This Viognier depicts vine cuttings. Vine cuttings are the beginnings of a new vineyard, planted after careful sorting, grafting and bundling in our state of the art Yalumba Nursery.

Winemaking Note

After harvest the Viognier grapes were gently pressed and the juice handled with controlled oxidation. The wine was fermented with indigenous yeast in stainless steel. These grapes, and the indigenous yeast that transformed them into wine, have created layers of flavour and richness. After ferment the wine was left on yeast lees for a few months to increase the complexity and creaminess of the wine and add richness to the palate.

Suitable for vegans and vegetarians.

Brand Profile Image

Red 5 Star Winery -James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion Edition 2011

Family-owned and run by Robert Hill Smith, Yalumba has long had a commitment to quality and has shown great vision in its selection of vineyard sites, new varieties and brands. It has always been a serious player at the top end of full-bodied (and full-blooded) Australian reds, and was the pioneer in the use of screwcaps. While its estate vineyards are largely planted to mainstream varieties, it has taken marketing ownership of viognier. However, these days its own brands revolve around the Y Series and a number of stand-alone brands across the length and breadth of SA. Yalumba has been very successful in building its export base. Exports to all major markets.
