The Yalumba Y Series of quality wines salutes Yalumba's proud history of viticulture and winemaking in South Australia. Significantly, the individual icons on each label reflect the labours, inventive thinking and aspirations of all at Yalumba.

This Sauvignon Blanc depicts the mercurial King George Whiting. Whenever a chance arises to take on the piscatorial pursuit, Yalumba goes for it. If successful, they eat it with reverence and wash it down with the citrus and tropical flavours of this wine.

Winery Tasting Notes

Pale straw with a green hue.

This wine displays delicacy and refinement. The nose shows depth of citrus brulee, lemon curd and fresh grapefruit. Amongst the creamy citrus notes, there is a fresh accompanying scent of recently cut foliage.

The palate expresses itself with complex savoury flavours such as lemon pith and preserved lemon, developing into delectable fresh tropicals. The palate is tight but generous, long and fresh with quintessential tangy citrus line. An easy drinking and enjoyable wine, showing all the hall marks of good Australian Sauvignon Blanc: line, length and generosity of flavour.

Food Matching

This is a wine for early drinking and would be very well suited accompanying a rustic goats cheese and caramelised onion tart.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Red 5 Star Winery -James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion Edition 2011

Family-owned and run by Robert Hill Smith, Yalumba has long had a commitment to quality and has shown great vision in its selection of vineyard sites, new varieties and brands. It has always been a serious player at the top end of full-bodied (and full-blooded) Australian reds, and was the pioneer in the use of screwcaps. While its estate vineyards are largely planted to mainstream varieties, it has taken marketing ownership of viognier. However, these days its own brands revolve around the Y Series and a number of stand-alone brands across the length and breadth of SA. Yalumba has been very successful in building its export base. Exports to all major markets.
