The grapes for the Yalumba Y Series Sangiovese Rosé 2012 come from four distinct vineyard sites in the Barossa Valley, Wrattonbully and Adelaide Hills. Tony Brooks’ vineyard near Gomersal, on rich, red brown earth over limestone, gives the wine depth and length, while Kevin Burgemeister’s Penrice site on brown, sandy loam gives the wine perfume and freshness. The third vineyard site at Wrattonbully is classic Terra Rossa over a limestone base. This terroir gives the wine a powerful depth of flavour coupled with mineral texture. Finally the vineyard in the cool climate of Adelaide Hills offers high toned perfume and herbal characters.

Red 5 Star Winery -James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion Edition 2011

Family-owned and run by Robert Hill Smith, Yalumba has long had a commitment to quality and has shown great vision in its selection of vineyard sites, new varieties and brands. It has always been a serious player at the top end of full-bodied (and full-blooded) Australian reds, and was the pioneer in the use of screwcaps. While its estate vineyards are largely planted to mainstream varieties, it has taken marketing ownership of viognier. However, these days its own brands revolve around the Y Series and a number of stand-alone brands across the length and breadth of SA. Yalumba has been very successful in building its export base. Exports to all major markets.
