Overview

The Yalumba Y Series of quality wines salutes our proud history of viticulture and winemaking in South Australia. Significantly, the individual icons on each label reflect the labours, inventive thinking and aspirations of all at Yalumba.

This Merlot depicts the winery dog. It could be a Flash, a Nugget or an Archie type dog. With its wet nose, soft fur and sparkling, clear eyes, the dog is a reminder of loyal and long term relationships, a hallmark of the Yalumba culture. Vegetarian and Vegan Friendly

Winery Tasting Notes

Colour

The 2012 Yalumba Y Series Merlot has an inviting deep red colour.

Aroma

Classic varietal aromas of red currants, violets, black olive, cedar, wild strawberry and vanilla

Palate

The aromas lead to a medium-bodied palate with lots of mulberry flavours and fine, long tannin. The generous fruit flavours give the wine a fleshy, supple appeal that the variety is so well known for.

Red 5 Star Winery -James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion Edition 2011

Family-owned and run by Robert Hill Smith, Yalumba has long had a commitment to quality and has shown great vision in its selection of vineyard sites, new varieties and brands. It has always been a serious player at the top end of full-bodied (and full-blooded) Australian reds, and was the pioneer in the use of screwcaps. While its estate vineyards are largely planted to mainstream varieties, it has taken marketing ownership of viognier. However, these days its own brands revolve around the Y Series and a number of stand-alone brands across the length and breadth of SA. Yalumba has been very successful in building its export base. Exports to all major markets.
