Expert Reviews

"This everyday white has been around for decades and is worth a re-acquaintance. Fresh as you could imagine with a vibrant lemon blossom and mint fragrance, tempering the more tropical fruit salad aromatic characters of the sauvignon which tend to swirl around in the mid palate and finish. It's a no brainer, lively and refreshing to the core." 3½ stars -Tony Love, The Herald Sun, 15 April 2014

"Looking for a refreshing everyday drinking white that won't break the bank? This should do the job. A blend of semillon and sauvignon blanc from the Barossa that has gone through several label changes over the years, this has plenty of freshness and zingy acidity and weighs in at just 12 per cent alcohol. There are citrus and passionfruit notes on the palate and more weight than you would expect in this price bracket. Very nice." Winsor Dobbin, Sunday Examiner, 6 April 2014

Winery Tasting Notes

Bright straw green in colour.

Christobel’s shows classic Semillon aromas of honeydew melon, citrus blossom and cut grass complemented with notes of guava and green apple. Fine and refreshing.

The Semillon provides richness and depth with fruit flavours of lemongrass and lime while the Sauvignon Blanc offers layers of guava and a fine mineral finish.

Food matching

A wonderful fresh wine for current drinking with fresh seafood, salads and Asian-style cuisine.

Red 5 Star Winery -James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion Edition 2011

Family-owned and run by Robert Hill Smith, Yalumba has long had a commitment to quality and has shown great vision in its selection of vineyard sites, new varieties and brands. It has always been a serious player at the top end of full-bodied (and full-blooded) Australian reds, and was the pioneer in the use of screwcaps. While its estate vineyards are largely planted to mainstream varieties, it has taken marketing ownership of viognier. However, these days its own brands revolve around the Y Series and a number of stand-alone brands across the length and breadth of SA. Yalumba has been very successful in building its export base. Exports to all major markets.
