Wet conditions prevailed during the 2014 winter, replenishing soil moisture levels, with relatively mild conditions in the latter part of 2014 encouraging healthy vine growth. Rain in January 2015 freshened the vineyards for the final ripening period through to harvest, resulting in fruit driven red wines with structure and presence. The grapes were fermented in both static and rotary fermenters, with warm temperatures at the onset of fermentation, along with 3 – 5 days post ferment maceration, helping to extract soft, fleshy tannins and build

Winery Tasting Notes

Deep crimson in colour with a magenta hue

the 2015 Y Series Cabernet Sauvignon is an attractive, fruit driven wine that opens with floral aromas of violets and lavender, spice and cedar to finish

The palate is tight and restrained with currants and Satsuma plum. It is medium to full bodied, vibrant, with enough tannin to add a structural component that keeps driving the wine. A lovely match for this wine is traditional or vegetarian homemade lasagne.

Red 5 Star Winery -James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion Edition 2011

Family-owned and run by Robert Hill Smith, Yalumba has long had a commitment to quality and has shown great vision in its selection of vineyard sites, new varieties and brands. It has always been a serious player at the top end of full-bodied (and full-blooded) Australian reds, and was the pioneer in the use of screwcaps. While its estate vineyards are largely planted to mainstream varieties, it has taken marketing ownership of viognier. However, these days its own brands revolve around the Y Series and a number of stand-alone brands across the length and breadth of SA. Yalumba has been very successful in building its export base. Exports to all major markets.
