The grapes for this Y Series Cabernet Sauvignon have been sourced from quality Cabernet vineyard regions within South Australia, principally the Wrattonbully region blended with the warmer Barossa.

Vintage 2012 cold be summed up as a vintage without extremes. La Nina conditions moderated throughout 2011, leading to good soil moisture at the beginning of the growing season. Average temperatures through spring and early summer allowed the vines to flourish giving healthy balanced canopies and good fruit set. Mild conditions through January to March allowed the grapes to ripen in ideal conditions producing grapes with outstanding depth of flavour.

Expert Reviews

"Screw cap. A very good Cabernet. It is round, fruity, full bodied, and well balanced; a wine with cassis, tobacco, pepper, and dried fig aromas/flavors. Long finish. [2014-2015]"3½ stars -Ron Wiegand MS MW, Restaurant Wine Newsletter Issue 150 & 151

Bright & lively aromas of violets and red fruits supported by subtle leafy notes.

On the palate this wine is very approachable, soft and supple with a generously textured mid palate.

Red 5 Star Winery -James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion Edition 2011

Family-owned and run by Robert Hill Smith, Yalumba has long had a commitment to quality and has shown great vision in its selection of vineyard sites, new varieties and brands. It has always been a serious player at the top end of full-bodied (and full-blooded) Australian reds, and was the pioneer in the use of screwcaps. While its estate vineyards are largely planted to mainstream varieties, it has taken marketing ownership of viognier. However, these days its own brands revolve around the Y Series and a number of stand-alone brands across the length and breadth of SA. Yalumba has been very successful in building its export base. Exports to all major markets.
