The 2010 The Guardian Eden Valley Shiraz Viognier is sourced entirely from Eden Valley Shiraz and Viognier vineyards. There is a great diversity across the Eden Valley Shiraz vineyards and a wide range of styles is produced.

From vineyards that exhibit quite subtle fragrant aromatics and a much finer, more elegant palate to those that are dense in style with darker brooding aromatics and palate richness.

What links them all together is an underlying finesse and purity, the hallmark of Eden Valley Shiraz. A small percentage of Eden Valley Viognier, either as grapes or juice was fermented with select batches of the Eden Valley Shiraz.

Expert Reviews

"An Eden Valley wine that is simply wonderful, it's full of joy and generosity and all things good and wholesome. I loved it, 94 points and outstanding value at $22 or less." Tony Keys, The Key Review of Wine 57, December 2013

Winery Tasting Notes

This wine has a subtle aroma of fresh and exotic sweet fragrances like red cherries, plums and rose petals with the spice and clove complexity of Viognier playing a supportive role.

On the palate this is an elegant and medium bodied wine, showing red forest fruits, anise, fine spices and cloves. This is a stylish wine built on fruit purity and elegance.

Food Matching

Match with roast fennel sausages.

Great now, but will also reward 5-7 years in the cellar.

Red 5 Star Winery -James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion Edition 2011

Family-owned and run by Robert Hill Smith, Yalumba has long had a commitment to quality and has shown great vision in its selection of vineyard sites, new varieties and brands. It has always been a serious player at the top end of full-bodied (and full-blooded) Australian reds, and was the pioneer in the use of screwcaps. While its estate vineyards are largely planted to mainstream varieties, it has taken marketing ownership of viognier. However, these days its own brands revolve around the Y Series and a number of stand-alone brands across the length and breadth of SA. Yalumba has been very successful in building its export base. Exports to all major markets.
