The 2009 Guardian Shiraz Viognier has been sourced entirely from Eden Valley Shiraz and Viognier vineyards. The Eden Valley delivers a lot of diversity across its Shiraz vineyards from which a wide range of styles can be produced. Despite many differences in its various fruit parcels, all Eden Valley fruit has an underlying finesse and purity. A small percentage of Eden Valley Viognier, either as grapes or juice was fermented with each batch of the Eden Valley Shiraz to produce the 2009 Guardian.

"Yalumba was among the pioneers of the modern era of Australian shiraz viognier and they're still getting it right. Meaty, spicy, black cherried, earthen. Floral notes as much from the Eden Valley aspect as from the viognier. Complex yet easy-going, no mean feat. Minerally finish. Smoky notes. No sign of apricot. Very good. Drink: 2013 - 2018."Rating 90 - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front, 1 September 2013
Winery Tasting Notes
This wine has a combination of sweet, fresh and fragrant aromatics of red cherries and plums with a spice and clove complexity, in addition to the subtle perfumed floral hints of Viognier.
On the palate the 2009 Guardian presents a medium to full bodied wine, showing red fruits, fine spices and cloves. It is a rich and softly textured but not over-powering Shiraz with the subtle sweet textures and presence of Viognier.
Great now, but will also reward 5-7 years in the cellar.
