Our Tithing Grenache is sourced from some of the Vale’s oldest Grenache vines off a combination of Sandy loam soils to provide lifted aromatics and darker soils including ‘Terra Rossa’ types contributing to the rich, bolder tannins. The climate of McLaren Vale is often compared to that of the Mediterranean, warm sunny days, with sea breeze influences from the nearby Gulf of St Vincent. These warm days in union with the cooling maritime evening changes are perfect for ripening the grapes whilst maintaining a crisp, clean acid.

Expert Reviews

Medium red-purple; typical McLaren Vale grenache, with more colour, more flavour and more structure than those from the Barossa or Clare valleys; there is a sweetness to the red and black fruits (in no way linked to sugar) that seduces the palate, even though oak and tannins are both in play. Rating 94 - Drink by 2020 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion (JUL/2012)

Winery Tasting Notes

2010 was one of the best Grenache vintages McLaren Vale has seen, producing a concentrated, rich, complex wine which is drinking well now in its youth or will age with distinction.

Intense cherry, strawberry lift with powerful savoury overtones put this ‘old vine’ Grenache at the serious quality end of the spectrum. Ripe, persistent tannins and a long fruit driven palate add to the intensity. A wine that will accompany rich dishes without fear of being lost.

5 Star Winery - James Halliday's Wine Companion 2013

Willunga 100 is based in the McLaren Vale region of South Australia, about 40 minutes south of Adelaide. Founded in 2005, the company is a joint venture between quality UK based importer, Liberty Wines, owned and operated by David Gleave MW, and industry veteran John Ratcliffe. A 4.5 Star rated winery by James Halliday, he believes Willunga 100"has hit the scene running, with outstanding value for money."

The wines up until 2009 were made by one of Australia’s most dynamic and awarded winemakers Steve Pannell, assisted by Kate Day. Kate working previously at Mitchelton Wines, Mount Adam and Wellington Wines Tasmania. They are still made by Kate and we are lucky enough to have the experience and expertise of Tim James who has joined us. He is well known on the wine-judging circuit, and was the Managing Director of Wirra Wirra Wine Company for seven years until 2007, and before that was Production Director at Hardy's.

We source our fruit from an array of vineyards, some of which are up to 50 years old, reflecting the character of the area and the varieties from which they are made.

It has been a tradition to hang an Olive Branch above your door to announce the release of a great vintage wine. This blend is appropriately named after this great tradition.
