Cool, dry start to season had us waiting in anticipation and we were not disappointed. A classic cool, long ripening vintage providing intense fruit flavours and lingering concentration. 2012 displays focus, richness and a youthfulness not seen since 2005.

The wine was fermented in/ finished its primary fermentation in French barriques, part new, part used. Bright, but light, purple- crimson; it has a harmonious palate of supple red cherry and plum fruit, oak and tannins expertly sewn into and onto the fruit. Crimson red


Classic Pinot Noir, red/ black cherry complimented with brooding earthy undertones. Subtle savoury spice.


Hints of violets and lavender. Rich black cherry spice surrounded by vanillin oak. Lovely middle palate concentration supported by fine velvet like tannins.

Red Five Star Winery - Australian Wine Companion 2014

The historic Yering Station (or at least the portion of the property on which the cellar door sales and vineyard are established) was purchased by the Rathbone family in 1996 and is also the site of the Yarrabank joint venture with French Champagne house Devaux (see separate entry). A spectacular and very large winery has been erected, handling the Yarrabank sparkling wines and the Yering Station table wines. It immediately became one of the focal points of the Yarra Valley, particularly as the historic Chateau Yering, where luxury accommodation and fine dining are available, is next door. Yering Stations own restaurant is open every day for lunch, providing the best lunchtime cuisine in the Valley. In 2008 Tom Carson moved on and was replaced by William (Willy) Lunn, a graduate of Adelaide University with more than 24 years cool climate winemaking experience around the world, including at Petaluma, Shaw + Smith and Argyle Winery (Oregon). Exports to all major markets.
