Classification: Langhe DOC, Piedmont
This is a wonderful vintage for Perbacco and the same is for the Barolo. The Perbacco is made from parcels all planted in the Barolo region, and more precisely in: Bricco Boschis, Liste, Brunella, Rocchettevino, Pernanno, Ravera di Monforte and Scarrone. The average age of the vines is 35 years and the plants per hectare are 4.500. All vineyards are vinifyed and aged separately until the moment we select the casks/Crus/Vineyards used then for our Barolo Castiglione. 18-28 days of alcoholic fermentation between 28°-35°. It follows the malolactic in stainless steel tank and/or barrique.
Aroma/Palate
The 2010 Nebbbiolo Perbacco offers up generous fruit along with menthol, spices and hard candy, showing notable intensity while retaining an essentially mid-weight style. Strong, intense and powerful when young, complex and elegant with the ageing.
Food Matching
Hearty stew, wild game, roasted red meats and sharp, aged cheeses
For the past four generations, the Vietti family has been producing wine in Castiglione Falletto, a small village located in the centre of the Langhe region of Piedmont, from their vineyards located across the five communes designated for the cultivation and production of Barolo. Over recent years Luca Currado-Vietti had taken over the winemaking direction from his late father Alfredo, and Luca’s brother-in-law Mario Cordero responsibility for sales and marketing from Luca’s mother Luciana. Luca’s wife ElenaPenna assists with administration and public relations. Each family member is closely linked to theoverall objective, to produce the highest quality wines, whilst retaining respect for the traditions of thespecific appellations. Vineyard acquisitions primarily during the 1980s and 1990s, across the Barolocommunes and in Asti, have seen the total Vietti holdings grow to 32 hectares. Luca Currado-Vietti is notlooking to increase production, but rather to achieve better control over fruit quality, and overwinemaking and with their new winery.
Vietti produce this Barbaresco from a single 1.4 hectare vineyard Masseria in the Commune of Nieve inBarbaresco. The south facing vines are, on average, 40 years old, and are cultivated with the guyotsytem, on calcareous clay soils.
