The bouquet is scented and lifted with attractive nuances of liquorice and dried flowers.

Palate

The palate is of medium body with wonderful balance and savoury fruit flavours again of tar and a hint of withered roses. Smooth and supple in youth yet with good structure, the finish is firm and long.

Food Matching

18 degrees Celsius, decanted for a brief period prior to serving. An early drinking Nebbiolo wine with attractive Nebbiolo aromatics making it a wonderful accompaniment to risotto aifunghi (mushroom risotto), antipasto featuring Italian style cured meats and fresh and semi-mature soft, ripe cheeses.

Winemaking Notes

The Perbacco Nebbiolo is fermented for 15 days between 28 and 35 degrees Celsius. The malo-lactic fermentation follows in stainless steel tanks. The wine is transferred to French oak barriques for 10 months, followed by 16 months in large Slovenian oak casks. The wine was bottled (unfiltered) in October 2009.

For the past four generations, the Vietti family has been producing wine in Castiglione Falletto, a small village located in the centre of the Langhe region of Piedmont, from their vineyards located across the five communes designated for the cultivation and production of Barolo. Over recent years Luca Currado-Vietti had taken over the winemaking direction from his late father Alfredo, and Luca’s brother-in-law Mario Cordero responsibility for sales and marketing from Luca’s mother Luciana. Luca’s wife ElenaPenna assists with administration and public relations. Each family member is closely linked to theoverall objective, to produce the highest quality wines, whilst retaining respect for the traditions of thespecific appellations. Vineyard acquisitions primarily during the 1980s and 1990s, across the Barolocommunes and in Asti, have seen the total Vietti holdings grow to 32 hectares. Luca Currado-Vietti is notlooking to increase production, but rather to achieve better control over fruit quality, and overwinemaking and with their new winery.

Vietti produce this Barbaresco from a single 1.4 hectare vineyard Masseria in the Commune of Nieve inBarbaresco. The south facing vines are, on average, 40 years old, and are cultivated with the guyotsytem, on calcareous clay soils.
