Since 1997, Tyrrell’s historical association with the “Rufus Stone” has been utilised for its top non Hunter Valley red wines from vineyards in Heathcote (VIC) and McLaren Vale (SA). The Willunga vineyard, from which the wines are sourced, is nestled in the heart of the famous McLaren Vale region and features a block of 50 year old Shiraz vines that consistently produce outstanding fruit for the Rufus Stone range.
- SA - McLaren Vale
- South Australia
A touch lighter on the nose than most McLaren Vale Shiraz but that is of little consequence. Tight structure in the mouth with beautiful aftertaste perfume remaining, needs a little more bottle time but it’s a good wine. 91 Points now but a couple more to come if it develops well…
Rating 91 - Tony Keys, The Key Review
Often reliable is Rufus Stone - the palate shows ripe red berry fruits and mintiness. It’s an even keeled, medium bodied style that builds with spice and pepper character. Faintly grippy tannins, good length and fresh as you like. Mike Bennie, WBM
Winery Tasting Notes
Dense red colour with bright purple hues.
The aromas are of sweet, rich Shiraz fruit with a sweet vanillin lift from the oak.
On the palate, the wine is medium to full bodied with the fruit being the dominant character and the oak and tannin structure adding to the palate but not overpowering it.
Rich and full bodied, this wine will complement a wide array of equally robust and intense foods such as roast lamb, game dishes, casseroles and hard cheeses.
Excellent drinking now, this wine will also cellar well in the medium term - up to six years.
