Winemaking Notes

The golden-hued berries for this Chardonnay were selected from a range of premium sites in Marlborough’s renowned Wairau Valley and in the hills of the adjacent Omaka Valley. The soils are very free draining alluvial shingles with a light dusting of silt. We employ intensive canopy and crop management practices to manipulate the yields down to a level that guaranties quality and ensure optimal ripeness.

Cool fermenting a portion of the wine in stainless steel allows the true character of the fruit to shine through, balanced with a richly textured barrel component to add further depth and complexity.

Winery Profile

At the heart of Baxter Wines is a passionate desire to create serious wines that are fun to share. Our stunning vineyard in the Wairau Valley is where it all begins. Located in the renowned Rapaura district, the deep deposits of glacial silt, laid down over millions of years, provide a wonderfully free-draining soil structure. The blue skies, warm days and cool nights that are essential element of Marlborough, New Zealand allow our vines to thrive.
