Winery Tasting Notes
The rim of the glass is deep indigo while the heart of the wine is opaque inky black and coats the sides with long viscous legs.
The bouquet is intoxicating with ripe berry fruit, licorice and chocolate. Clean new oak is evident with hints of coconut and vanilla in the heady concentration of alcohol esters followed by complex earthy spice.
The power of the nose flows straight onto the palate with luscious blackberry and dark plum fruit. Finely charred oak enhances the spiciness of licorice and aniseed while vanilla and chocolate give richness to the middle which leads to a smoky, dry finish. The tannins are plump and juicy giving a velvety texture and hinting at years of cellaring potential.
This is an impressive Barossa Shiraz that while youthful, is big and loud. It’s crying out for equally intense food flavours like flame grilled eye fillet steak, spicy Barossa wurst or rare roast lamb with garlic and rosemary. However, with cellar aging it will blossom into a rare, sophisticated dining experience.
This is a solid, powerful wine that’s still showing some of the rugged characteristics of youth. It’s released now as a ‘Futures Classic’ and will go on to reward cellaring for well over a decade. The screw cap closure ensures that under appropriate condition, this wine will develop gracefully and slowly without the risk of spoilage or oxidation from cork failure. It will deliver enjoyment for many years as the fresh lively flavours of today evolve into the complex secondary flavour of bottle age.
