This is an impressive expression of premium Barossa Shiraz. It has big ripe fruit flavours backed by full bodied tannins and bold earthy complexity. It captures the depth and intensity of the region with a powerful bouquet and sophisticated palate.

Winery Tasting Notes


The appearance is deep inky red with dense purple hues on the rim and long viscous legs coating the glass.


The bouquet is full of ripe Satsuma plum, mulberry and dark cherry fruit with a savory background of smokehouse meats, dusty earth and a hint of chocolate. Rich oak is evident and harmoniously balanced with the intense fruit.


The opening palate is intense with ripe dark plum fruit and earthy herbs followed by white pepper, anise and steely minerality. The mid palate has plump juicy tannins which give a silky voluptuous texture. The mouth-feel builds with a dry earthiness leading to a long finish with deep herbal notes and a warm chocolaty aftertaste.

Food Matching

This is a big wine for hearty cuisine. Slow roast casseroles, thick juicy steaks and rich game dishes are excellent while firm cheeses and water crackers are ideal after the meal.

Cellaring Potential

This is a classic Barossa Shiraz which will deliver excellent drinking over a decade of cellaring. From release it offers an intense flavour experience which will continue to develop and gain complexity as it matures in bottle. Please decant before consuming.

Winery Profile

With well over forty vintages under his belt, Chris’s career is full of many and varied experiences in the South Australian wine industry. Commencing in 1963, Chris became involved in Barossa viticulture working with 100 year old Shiraz, old bush vine Mataro and Tokay. In 1977 he joined Wolf Blass Wines as a Cellar Hand.Some two years later, recognising Chris’s management talents, attention to detail and natural ability to assess flavour profiles in pre-fermented and pre-finished wines, he was promoted to Cellar Master and in 1990 appointed Wolf Blass Winery Manager.

Working closely with Wolf Blass and the Senior Winemaker, Chris was responsible for the blending of many of the early Black Label, Grey and Yellow Label wines so sort after by today’s discerning consumers. In the decade preceeding Chris’s retirement in 2009, he oversaw the careers of many of today’s talented and well known winemakers.

As a producer with Wine Vintners, Chris now offers his wealth of winemaking experience and blending skill for your enjoyment. We commend his wonderful passion for great Barossa wines to your enjoyment.
