First planted in 1990, the Bullnose Vineyard's old red iron soils produce Te Mata Estate's finest Syrah. This wine has distinct floral and spice aromas, rich flavours of plum, raspberry and blackberry, with a velvety texture.

Reductive with smoky bacon bones, black pepper, blue fruits and floral perfume. Slides along, a bit of the old graphite in the tannin department, well pitched acidity, red and black fruits layered with spice on a medium bodied frame. Very well mannered. Certainly, it’s Syrah over Shiraz and good to drink now, or over the next decade for additional complexity. Rating 94 - Drink by 2025, Gary Walsh, winefront.com.au (MAR/2016).
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Bullnose Syrah I tried was a tank sample just about to be bottled and released the week I tasted it. It gives notes of ripe crushed cherries, black raspberries, Sichuan pepper and underbrush with quite an earthy undercurrent. Medium-bodied, it has loads of fruit in the mouth, complimented by just enough pepper and spice with a good backbone of very silky tannins and lively acidity carrying off a good long finish. Rating 92 - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (DEC/2015).
Winery Tasting Notes
Deep vibrant purple.
Bullnose ’14 rolls out of the glass in waves of mocha, oriental spice, plum and dark, dark cherry.
Bullnose ’14 is opulent, lush and perfectly balanced. Lavishly textured with concentrated layers of raspberry and blackcurrant. Elegant, faultless, a wine of great finesse - the 2014 is the perfect celebration of a quarter century of Bullnose Syrah.
Bullnose 2014 is closed with a natural cork, allowing continued evolution in the bottle for 8 years from harvest.
