Estate Vineyards Chardonnay has ripe stone fruit and citrus characters, subtly enhanced by fermentation in seasoned oak barrels, lee's contact and a creamy malolactic influence, to create a rich and elegant wine.

This wine is a wonderful example of Hawke’s Bay’s remarkable 2013 growing season, already described by the UK’s Decanter magazine as “the stuff of legends”.

Winery Tasting Notes

Estate Vineyards Chardonnay ’13 has a bright green colour with gold highlights.

It is fresh and expressive with white meadow flowers, hazelnut, white peach, green melon and, oat butter biscuit characters.

The palate quickly builds in intensity with the rich citrus and ripe stonefruit flavours that are classically Hawke’s Bay in a great year, leading through to a long, fine, finish.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Te Mata Estate is New Zealand’s oldest winery, dating from the early 1890s. It is a New Zealand family-owned winery – a true estate, specialising in grape growing and winemaking from its nine Hawke’s Bay vineyards. It is acknowledged as one of only five icon wineries in New Zealand.

Under the direction of John Buck, Te Mata Estate has, over nearly thirty years, produced a stunning array of red and white wines including famous labels such as Coleraine, Awatea cabernets/merlots, Bullnose syrah, Elston chardonnay, Cape Crest sauvignon blanc and, launched in 2009, Zara viognier. Te Mata Estate has also developed a unique single vineyard from which it produces its Woodthorpe wines.

Te Mata Estate makes wines from hand-harvested grapes from its own vineyards. These vineyards are all located in Hawkes Bay (within 40 minutes drive of the winery) and under the direct control of Te Mata Estate’s viticultural team.

Total land area: 600 acres (240 hectares). Total planted vineyard area: 300 acres (120 hectares).
