The 2013 Runholder Pinot Noir was sourced exclusively from the Home and McLeod Vineyards on the Martinborough Terrace. A variety of six clones were selected including Abel and 777, which represent approximately half of the blend. Each block and clone is vinified separately with handpicked fruit being de-stemmed and fermented in small stainless fermenters.

The selected grapes received regular hand punch-downs for full extraction without sacrificing elegance. After pressing, the wines are matured in French oak barriques for 10 months (28% new oak), before being bottled.

Winery Profile

"tee-kigh-runga" - where the soil is rich and the food is plentiful, Te Kairanga is one of Martinborough's founding vineyards established over 20 years ago. In keeping with the pioneering spirit surrounding the vineyard, a number of Te Kairanga wines have hailed from Martinborough's history and that of its inhabitants dating back to 1879. Our own John Martin Reserve Pinot Noir, known and loved by many, is notably named after the foundingfather of Martinborough - John Martin himself. Likewise the Pinot Runholder is aptly named as a tribute to the runholders of the land back in time.

Distinctively boutique, Te Kairanga was established over 25 years ago and is one of Martinborough’s founding wineries. We have six vineyards here, each with its own distinctive characteristics and suited to different varieties and viticultural practises. Our focus is handcrafted, benchmark wines that showcase old world style with new world flair, and are true representations of the Martinborough growing region.
