The 2013 John Martin Pinot Noir was handpicked from the Home Vineyard with six percent McLeod Vineyard, all from the Martinborough Terrace. The distinctive Abel clone dominates (84%), with smaller amounts of 777 and 10/5. After rigorous selection on the sorting table the grapes are destemmed and fermented in small stainless fermenters. Following post ferment maceration, the wines are pressed off and aged for 10 months in French oak (28% new), before final selection for blending and bottling with no fining.

Winery Profile

"tee-kigh-runga" - where the soil is rich and the food is plentiful, Te Kairanga is one of Martinborough's founding vineyards established over 20 years ago. In keeping with the pioneering spirit surrounding the vineyard, a number of Te Kairanga wines have hailed from Martinborough's history and that of its inhabitants dating back to 1879. Our own John Martin Reserve Pinot Noir, known and loved by many, is notably named after the foundingfather of Martinborough - John Martin himself. Likewise the Pinot Runholder is aptly named as a tribute to the runholders of the land back in time.

Distinctively boutique, Te Kairanga was established over 25 years ago and is one of Martinborough’s founding wineries. We have six vineyards here, each with its own distinctive characteristics and suited to different varieties and viticultural practises. Our focus is handcrafted, benchmark wines that showcase old world style with new world flair, and are true representations of the Martinborough growing region.
