Established in 1984, this land was originally owned by the founding father of Martinborough, John Martin, in the late 1800s. The over 130 year-old cottage that still stands on the property serves as both an icon and hospitality center for the winery.

This is a Chardonnay crafted from the best vineyard parcels of the property.

Winery Profile

"tee-kigh-runga" - where the soil is rich and the food is plentiful, Te Kairanga is one of Martinborough's founding vineyards established over 20 years ago. In keeping with the pioneering spirit surrounding the vineyard, a number of Te Kairanga wines have hailed from Martinborough's history and that of its inhabitants dating back to 1879. Our own John Martin Reserve Pinot Noir, known and loved by many, is notably named after the foundingfather of Martinborough - John Martin himself. Likewise the Pinot Runholder is aptly named as a tribute to the runholders of the land back in time.

Distinctively boutique, Te Kairanga was established over 25 years ago and is one of Martinborough’s founding wineries. We have six vineyards here, each with its own distinctive characteristics and suited to different varieties and viticultural practises. Our focus is handcrafted, benchmark wines that showcase old world style with new world flair, and are true representations of the Martinborough growing region.
