As with all Te Awa Wines our Syrah is hand harvested and is a direct expression of our unique terroir. Intriguing aromatics of dark flowers, sweet red fruits and a grind of pepper and spice.
This wine is deeply coloured, rich and warm with a velvety textured palate and vibrant flavours.

This boldly coloured 2009 vintage of this estate-grown, Gimblett Gravels, Hawke’s Bay red is mouthfilling and sweet-fruited, with rich plum and black-pepper flavours, and a hint of liquorice. Finely textured and vibrantly fruity, it’s likely to be at its best 2012+.4 Stars - Michael Cooper, Michael Cooper’s Buyer’s Guide to New Zealand Wine 2011
Medium-deep purple/red in colour. A youthful and pristine nose displaying dark plum, blueberry, floral and subtle game characters. The palate is concentrated and finely textured with beautifully harmonised acidity and supple tannins. A very young wine showing huge promise to blossom with age. From the Gimblett Gravels. At its best: 2012 to 2018Rating 93 - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit (JAN/2011)
Winery Tasting Notes
A very typical Syrah nose of black berry fruits and cinnamon quill spice. Savoury notes such as miso eef stock and freshly filed steel give this wine an extra dimension. This umami like complexity is the result of multiple strains of vineyeard yeast and long term barrel ageing on a heavy lee of decaying skin fragment, yeast and malo lactic bacteria.
The palate is medium bodied as one would expect from our version of Syrah. The tannins are supple and remain unmodified, in their naturally extracted state, poised to take the wine forward in the bottle. Expect richness of flavour, an economy of flamboyance and the satisfaction of natural balance.
