When the Clarke forbearers discovered gold in 1870 at the Lady Alice mine in the Barossa goldfields, so began a family dynasty intrigued by geology. A fine legacy that is reflected today in the terroir of our vineyards. The Shotfire range immortilises the Shotfirer’s hazardous job of setting and lighting the charges in the mines.

Expert Reviews

There is a lot of wine here for the price, with blackberry, licorice, bitter chocolate and well balanced spicy oak; the palate is firm and focused, revealing tension between its components; good now and with plenty of fuel in the tank for the future.Rating 92 -James Halliday, Austrailan Wine Companion 2012

Dark ruby/purple, with notes of roasted coconut, graphite, damp earth, blackberry and casses, this perfumed wine hits the palate with a thunderous richness from the glycerin and dense fruit. Quite sexy, stunning, with some structured tannin in the finish, this wine should drink well for another 5-7 years.Rating 90 - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (JUN/2012)

Smooth, polished and open textured, with a violet note weaving through the plum and blackberry flavours, lingering easily. Drink now through 2018. Rating 90 - Wine Spectator 2012

Winery Tasting Notes

Deep red colour.

A lifted and intense nose of blackberry fruit, sweet spice and dark chocolate.

The palate is very rich and flavoursome with blackberry and plum fruit. In addition to the primary fruit characters there is plenty of complexity in this wine with spice and earthy notes. There is heaps of mouth filling flavour complemented by chalky tannins. There is great length of fruit as well.

Brand Profile Image

After 20 years in vineyard development, Thorn-Clarke is without doubt one of the most exciting Barossa Valley brands to enter the market in some time. The name Thorn-Clarke derives literally from the relationship between two long time Barossa Families. Founders David and Cheryl Clarke (Nee Thorn) work with their son and daughter, Sam and Nicole, in this family-orientated business. With four family-owned vineyards in the Barossa and Eden Valley, Thorn-Clarke produces wines across three ranges (Sandpiper, Shotfire and William Randell). All represent exceptional value and display true regional character. This label showcases the best that the Barossa has to offer.
