Expert Reviews

"The high altitude cooler climes of the Eden Valley are ideal for riesling. This is typically minerally with a little lemon-scented blossom in there. The palate is still restrained but approachable with a terrific natural acidity sustaining the finish. Excellent wine for the shorter term."Rating 92 - THE WEST AUSTRALIAN, (28/NOV/2013)

"A well-made wine, built around a structure of minerally acidity, lime and lemon providing the flesh to go on the bones."Rating 91 - James Halliday'S Top Value Wines $20 And Under, Wine Companion Magazine Feb/March 2014 Issue

"Beautiful riesling aromas, like limes and green apple juice, honey, lemons and subtle blossom, all concentrate here in the mouth for a bag load of flavour while remaining crisp, thirst quenching and more-ish, with a light minerally finish. Get it cold and bring on any seafood." 4 Stars - Tony Love, Daily Telepgrah, (21/01/2014)

"Imagine a stroll across a field of lavender with citrus tree lines, which embrace the palate toward a crisp line of acidity. Yum." ADELAIDE REVIEW HOTTEST 100 WINES FOR 2013

'When I tasted this in September 2013 I said the future is bright according to my reckoning but that future will not start until around the end of February 2014. I think this is a very good wine indeed and it's worth an easy 91 points, but if drunk too soon the $19 asked will be considered expensive and the drinker may be disappointed. However, if not drunk until some time into 2014 it's a bargain and I'm sure at least three more points to come.'Rating 91 - Tony Keys, The Key Review of Wine (JUL/2014)

Winery Tasting Notes

Aroma

The wine has lifted perfumed floral and lime characters on the nose.

Palate

The palate is flavoursome but has finesse. Primary citrus characters are balanced with a subtle musk spice. The wine has a backbone of minerally acid which persists after the wine has left the mouth.

Food Matching

An ideal wine for reminiscing late into the night with old friends over a hearty pasta dish...

Cellaring

5 - 10 Years

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

After 20 years in vineyard development, Thorn-Clarke is without doubt one of the most exciting Barossa Valley brands to enter the market in some time. The name Thorn-Clarke derives literally from the relationship between two long time Barossa Families. Founders David and Cheryl Clarke (Nee Thorn) work with their son and daughter, Sam and Nicole, in this family-orientated business. With four family-owned vineyards in the Barossa and Eden Valley, Thorn-Clarke produces wines across three ranges (Sandpiper, Shotfire and William Randell). All represent exceptional value and display true regional character. This label showcases the best that the Barossa has to offer.
