Overview

This Cabernet hails from Wrattonbully – just over the Victorian border in South Australia, north-east of Coonawarra. The 2011 vintage in the area was difficult, wet and cool, but some 2011s – like this fine example – are now coming into their own. Cassis, currants and a still-developing touch of iron-rich earth emanate. The palate is medium weight with that earth note continuing alongside blackcurrants and a clean line of acidity. Exceptional value and perfect for drinking right now.

Expert Reviews

Appealing nose of blackcurrant and chocolate. Fruit and oak. Palate then delivers a good, chunky hit of dark fruited flavour – and lots of mouth-coating tannin. Enjoyable, if a little out of balance. Slight dip through the mid-palate. Smoky/herbal aftertaste. For bistro drinking, with steak.
