Swiggit & Co - Our Story
John J. Philaglas Esquire was born in Winchester into the affluent Philaglas family, holding a silver spoon in one hand and a crystal wine goblet in the other. Both his socialite mother, Winnie, and his blue blooded father, Vincent, came from a long line of wine aficionados; an enthusiasm that was quickly passed onto their noble son.
This gentlemanly lad with a gift for the gab had his passion for wine properly ignited during his elite university years. It was during this time that he became founder and chairman of the Swiggit Society; a secret club dedicated to the creation (and heavy consumption) of the society’s very own Shiraz. The wine was brewed in an underground cellar that was discovered after a particularly fated night of scholarly banter and typical tomfoolery. The iron corkscrew became the coveted symbol, passed onto future wine leaders for generations to come.
He headed to Australia and established Swiggit & Co, where the principal of producing delicious, slurpable wines for the everyday consumer was cemented. Philaglas believed that blends offer more complexity, food friendliness and value for money, whilst varietal wines show an indicative relations to region, and possess the requisite to be consumed in the fashion they are produced…one variety; one glass at a time.
