Grays Tasting Panel Review

Marlborough is rightly recognised for their outstanding Sauvignon Blanc but they are also capable of producing some pretty impressive Pinot Noir, as evidenced by this little number. A light ruby colour in the glass it emits aromas of cherries and strawberries with just a hint of spice. Not overly complex but extremely approachable easy drinking. Pop it in the fridge for half an hour and enjoy a glass or two after a hot day in the garden. 90 points Dean, Tasting Panel Dec 2015

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Spy Valley Wines is situated on the sunny southern side of Marlborough's Wairau Valley, nestled on the terraces of the Omaka river are the vineyards of Johnson Estate.

Bryan and Jan Johnson established the first of their 380 acres of estate vineyards in 1993. Pioneers in what was then a Marlborough sub region, the Lower Waihopai development continued with fruit being grown and sold to other wine companies.

From vintage 2000 wine was produced and sold under the Spy Valley label. The brand name SPY VALLEY® is derived from the presence of a satellite communications monitoring station (spy base) nearby, part of the Echelon Global Network.

The Envoy range of wines was released in 2007 and represents small parcel wine production from specific vineyard sites off Johnson family estate vineyards. The wines are vineyard designated and represent winemaker interpretations of site and vintage.
