The most critical site selection is applied to vineyard sites chosen for growing Stella Bella Chardonnay. Each location adds another dimension to the wine due to the differing soils, aspects, clones and meso-climates unique to the respective sites. Applied to this collection of distinguished vineyards is the inspiration and skill of our winemaking team that draws upon traditional Burgundian winemaking methods and the use of fine-grain French oak to craft a layered, flavoursome and complex wine with the capacity to age gracefully.

Winery Tasting Notes

Brilliant pale lemon with green highlights

The bouquet has a panoply of scents of great intensity and complexity – there is an interplay of the aromatic notes of white flowers, anise and lemon curd with the deeper notes of spicy oak, some yoghurt-like nuances and a hint of struck match.

The deft palate shows both restraint and power. Taut citrus, pear and briny/mineral elements build in the mouth and meld perfectly with the savoury, nutty, fine-grained oak which nevertheless remains unobtrusive. The finish has a pleasant grapefruit-like tang and the signature length of flavour which shows great persistence. A wine of elegance & finesse.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

The beginnings of Stella Bella Wines date back to the release of 200 cases of the single vineyard Suckfizzle Sauvignon Blanc Semillon in 1999 by winemakers Janice McDonald and Stuart Pym.

In 2000 the first Stella Bella wine, a Moscato style Pink Muscat was released followed by a Sangiovese Cabernet in 2003. An interest in Italian wine influencing both the choice of name and wine styles.

And the latest addition, Skuttlebutt an everyday drinking style, was released in 2003.

From this modest and eclectic beginning, Stella Bella Wines has experienced rapid growth, broad critical acclaim and a reputation for producing individually crafted Margaret River wines of great expression, personality and quality.

The grafting and crafting of this reputation has been and remains a very hands-on journey for Stella Bella Wines. Both owners and staff alike have worked intuitively and with a high level of self belief and trust in one another.

Our future success is inextricably linked to the Margaret River region and the crafting of the best wines possible from this precious and scarce vineyard resource.
