As the estate and grower vineyards mature in the various Yarra Valley towns, many beautiful sites now 20 years and older are producing delightful wine and simply don't fit into the De Bortoli estate or single section releases. These with the lovely 'left overs' from the estate grown cuvee's make the regional blends called Villages. The Pinot Noir gives an elegant nose full of red currants, cherry and woodland spice followed by a medium body with great texture, dark fruit flavours and fine gentle tannins.

Expert Reviews

94 Points - James Halliday: Released almost rudely young, but the quality is high. It's firm and structural with varietal fruit characters charging through its veins. Spice, cherry, spice and woodsmoke. Life and lift. The price isn't quite laugh out loud, but it's not far off.

90 Points - Huon Hooke: Medium to deep red colour with purple tints, the bouquet spicy, shy, mysterious and ripe-smelling, with youthful lack of development. It's very intense in the mouth and the attack is sharpened by bright acidity. There is good concentration and persistence. Lovely pinosity, too. A very tidy young pinot to drink or cellar.

93 Points - Campbell Mattinson: And this 2015 is a particularly successful release. It just gets a lot of things right. It's firm, fruity and varietal and through the finish, it gets the job done. You'd be hard-pressed to find an area to criticise this. Cherried, chalky, spicy, alive. Beautifully made, and priced. So good, so young.

Brand Profile Image

De Bortoli Wines is a third generation family wine company established by Vittorio and Giuseppina De Bortoli in 1928. The couple emigrated to Australia from Northern Italy, from mountain villages at the foothills of the Italian Alps, near the historic town of Asolo.

Their son, the energetic and dynamic Deen De Bortoli, (b 1936 – d 2003) expanded and consolidated the business created by his parents. Deen's children established De Bortoli's reputation for premium wine including icon dessert wine Noble One and the Yarra Valley wines.

Italian family values passed down from Vittorio remain core values, there is a culture of hard work, generosity of spirit and of sharing good food, good wine and good times with family and friends.
