Expert Reviews

Bright, soft, pale salmon pink colour, light on edge. The bouquet is fresh, with shy and delicate aromas of red florals and strawberries, lifted and with subtle perfumes. Dry to taste, this is very finely concentrated on palate with tightly bound, restrained flavours of strawberries and roses. The mouthfeel is fresh and crisp with a firm linearity, moderated by soft textures and slippery, racy, mouthwatering acidity. The wine builds in presence and the flavours blossom on the finish, unfolding gentle waves of floral interest. This is a delicately flavoured, racy rosé that grows in floral and strawberry interest. Serve as an aperitif or with Asian fare over the next 2 years. 100% Pinot Noir from the Southern Valleys, partially fermented in barrel to 13.5% alc. and 2.6 g/L RS. Rating 4 Stars - Raymond Chan www.raymondchanwinereviews.co.nz

Pale pink, full-bodied wine, made with ‘subtle oak influences’. Fresh strawberry, peach and spice flavours, showing a touch of complexity, and a dry finish. A good ‘food’ wine. 3 and 1/2 Stars - Winestate Magazine

Spy Valley Wines is situated on the sunny southern side of Marlborough's Wairau Valley, nestled on the terraces of the Omaka river are the vineyards of Johnson Estate.

Bryan and Jan Johnson established the first of their 380 acres of estate vineyards in 1993. Pioneers in what was then a Marlborough sub region, the Lower Waihopai development continued with fruit being grown and sold to other wine companies.

From vintage 2000 wine was produced and sold under the Spy Valley label. The brand name SPY VALLEY® is derived from the presence of a satellite communications monitoring station (spy base) nearby, part of the Echelon Global Network.

The Envoy range of wines was released in 2007 and represents small parcel wine production from specific vineyard sites off Johnson family estate vineyards. The wines are vineyard designated and represent winemaker interpretations of site and vintage.
