Overview

This Pinot Noir is made from fruit coming from the oldest vines, in an area they call 'F Block'. And we agree with that because this wine is absolutely Fantatsic!

Such concentration of flavours in that Pinot and so much complexity and finesse at the same time.

A fantastic drop!

Expert Reviews

Concentrated Pinot Noir, perhaps without quite the power and depth of its sister label (Outpost) but showing complexity and finesse. I noted dark cherry, violet, savoury/fresh herbs and spicy oak flavours. Sweet fruit are balanced by gently drying tannins. Bob Campbell, Rating 91

Good bright, deep red. Tart red berries, liquorice and sweet oak on the nose. Sweet and glyceral, with attractive redcurrant and cranberry fruit flavors along with an obvious oakiness. Very good material and breadth here, if not the last word in refinement. Finishes with dusty tannins and good length. Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Rating 89

Brand Profile Image

Spy Valley Wines is situated on the sunny southern side of Marlborough's Wairau Valley, nestled on the terraces of the Omaka river are the vineyards of Johnson Estate.

Bryan and Jan Johnson established the first of their 380 acres of estate vineyards in 1993. Pioneers in what was then a Marlborough sub region, the Lower Waihopai development continued with fruit being grown and sold to other wine companies.

From vintage 2000 wine was produced and sold under the Spy Valley label. The brand name SPY VALLEY® is derived from the presence of a satellite communications monitoring station (spy base) nearby, part of the Echelon Global Network.

The Envoy range of wines was released in 2007 and represents small parcel wine production from specific vineyard sites off Johnson family estate vineyards. The wines are vineyard designated and represent winemaker interpretations of site and vintage.
