The Sally’s Paddock is the jewel in the Redbank crown. Named after winemaker Neill Robb’s wife, Sally’s Paddock is a distinctive wine made from a single non-irrigated vineyard established in 1973 at Redbank. The Sally’s Paddock vineyard grows modest crops of exceptional quality Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Cabernet Franc and Merlot which are hand picked at optimum balance. Small batch made with wild yeast, hand punched, basket pressed all in the Old Australian way. Extended use of new American and Nevers oak ensures that the characteristics of the unique blend from this legendary vineyard are conserved in the wine until ultimate maturity. It is universally regarded as one of Australia’s classic red wines. The unique combination of soil type, cool-mild climatic characteristics and non-irrigated traditional culture vineyards produce low yield grapes of high intensity, colour and flavour in the classic Pyrenees style.

Winery Tasting Notes

The 2010 Sally’s Paddock is reminiscent of the 1991, which Neill has described as one of his best and favourite vintages.

It has a lovely delicate floral, specifically orange blossom, bouquet with hints of vanilla bean and cinnamon. After a while, these restrained aromas open up and give way to earthy and cigar box characters that leave a distinctly European impression.

The palate has an elegant sophistication and a subtle complexity of flavours. Typical spice, black cherries and wild berry fruits are coupled with supple savoury tannins, which reveal a very well balanced, intense wine with lovely oak integration and a delicious lingering finish.

A restrained style at present and lovely to drink now but will open and develop in to a typical full flavoured Sally’s Paddock style with ten to fifteen years in the cellar. Will keep to 30 years

Winery Profile

Redbank Winery was established by Neill & Sally Robb in the Pyrenees region of Central Victoria in 1973.

It is distinctly Australian and is named after the small town of Redbank situated three kilometers to the north. It is located 2 hours north-west of Melbourne in the heart of the Pyrenees range.

Redbank Winery has established a reputation for producing wines of excellent quality, consistency and value. The winery is 18kms north of Avoca on the Sunraysia Highway.

Neill & Sally planted their first vines in 1973; which consisted of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Malbec varieties. Today there are 18 hectares (45 acres) under vine, which produce exceptional quality grapes. The original vineyard of Sally’s Paddock, named after Neill’s wife Sally, is still a non-irrigated single vineyard that continues to deliver a wine of wonderful complexity and depth.

In 1975, using local century old hand made red bricks, Neill built our steep-gabled winery, known as Redbank Winery. This today provides a fabulous ambiance to taste the wines and also enjoy the delicious hand made dishes, at the Flying Pig Deli.

After 37 years of operation, Redbank Winery continues to be wholly owned and operated by Neill & Sally Robb.

Sally’s Paddock is proudly listed as ‘Distinguished’ on the Langton’s Classification of Distinguished Australian Wine. The Sally’s Paddock has been listed in their catalogue since it’s inception. Langton’s Classification is now a cornerstone of the ultra-fine Australian wine market. It is based on the actual buying patterns of their clients (over 6000 active members). Thus it transcends personal agendas, pompous glorifications and endless accolades.
