This excellent Sauvignon Blanc Semillon blend is entirely sourced from the original Smithbrook Vineyard planted in 1988. The Sauvignon Blanc is planted largely on well-drained north-facing gravel and is cane-pruned to allow optimal flavour and acid development in this cool region.
The 2013 vintage started out wet and cool but developed into a benevolent white growing season. This allowed the winemaking and viticulture team to pick the fruit in individual batches at optimal ripeness delivering pristine, fresh punchy flavours as juice. These juices were then fermented cool and slowly to best capture the fruit purity and crispness from these excellent grapes. The result is a wine that we are proud to release under the Smithbrook banner which is fresh, zesty and pure and will provide great drinking pleasure over the coming months.
Light straw-green; this has an intensely focused and seamless palate, with the lemongrass signature of semillon threaded through the citrus, guava and gooseberry notes of the sauvignon blanc; excellent length and finish. Rating 94 - Drink by 2015, James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion (SEP/2013)
Colour
Extremely pale with brilliant flashes of green.
Aroma
Lifted aromas of lime, gooseberry and passionfruit. These characters are underscored and complex with subtle notes of regional minerality and citrus blossom.
Palate
Fresh and zesty with mouth-watering acidity and a long, crisp finish. Flavours of passionfruit, guava and brown lime give the palate drive and great fruit intensity while hints of tropical sweet fruits add to its fruit-driven appeal. This finishes dry and clean leaving the palate refreshed and ready for more.
Cellaring
This wine is released ready to enjoy but will continue to evolve further complexity and fruit weight over the coming 18 months.

The Smithbrook vineyard is located amongst majestic “tall trees” on a pristine hill in the Pemberton wine region in the south west corner of Western Australia.
Planted in the late 1980s, the vineyard represents the most significant mature vineyard in the region. The warm Indian Ocean to the West and the cool Southern Ocean to the south create a maritime climate.
Smithbrook focuses on two key varietals - Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot, identified as the best varieties for this region.
Smithbrook has a natural, sustainable approach to managing the vineyard; low-yielding dry grown vines, roaming Guinea Fowl to control insects and no harmful sprays all assist to grow balanced vines. Vineyard philosophy employed includes rigorous programme of heavy pruning, minimal irrigation and low cropping in order to increase the fruit quality of the vineyard.
