Expert Reviews

Co-fermented in used French oak, the semillon from a single estate block, the sauvignon blanc blocks much greater in size; 11 months maturation with fortnightly lees stirring followed. A wine that is all about texture and length, not about exotic sauvignon blanc flavour. Food style, as they say. James Halliday, Rating 90, 27th July 2015

Winery Tasting Notes

Intense fruit aromas of lime zest and poached pear, given complexity by flint characters from yeast lees contact and barrel maturation overlaid with a preserved lemon salt tang.

The wine tastes scintillatingly fresh; opening with a citrus compote then moving to middle palate textural richness reminiscent of a baked lemon curd tart and an alluring dash of white pepper. The wine has presence throughout the palate with a long and refreshing finish.

Winery Profile

Smith & Hooper wines are sourced entirely from two Wrattonbully estate vineyards - adjacent vineyard blocks previously owned by the Smith and Hooper families. These are premium red wines from exceptional vineyard sites where the winemaking philosophy is to let the terroir speak for itself - and it does. The elements of soil and climate at Smith & Hooper have transformed the noble varieties of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon into wines of finesse and distinction.
