The word skuttlebutt has its origin in the antiquated, nautical term for the source of drinking water on sea-going vessels. It has evolved into the colloquial term for gossip, rumour and idle chatter.

This transformation can be explained by the very nature of social gatherings. Crowding around the skuttlebutt to obtain a drink of water was part of everyday life and the opportunity for idle chatter amongst the crew was the inevitable outcome and so the word became synonymous.

Skuttlebutt wines are made and priced to drink every day, so take the opportunity to catch up with friends over a glass of Skuttlebutt, for that perfect occasion to skuttlebutt.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

The beginnings of Stella Bella Wines date back to the release of 200 cases of the single vineyard Suckfizzle Sauvignon Blanc Semillon in 1999 by winemakers Janice McDonald and Stuart Pym.

In 2000 the first Stella Bella wine, a Moscato style Pink Muscat was released followed by a Sangiovese Cabernet in 2003. An interest in Italian wine influencing both the choice of name and wine styles.

And the latest addition, Skuttlebutt an everyday drinking style, was released in 2003.

From this modest and eclectic beginning, Stella Bella Wines has experienced rapid growth, broad critical acclaim and a reputation for producing individually crafted Margaret River wines of great expression, personality and quality.

The grafting and crafting of this reputation has been and remains a very hands-on journey for Stella Bella Wines. Both owners and staff alike have worked intuitively and with a high level of self belief and trust in one another.

Our future success is inextricably linked to the Margaret River region and the crafting of the best wines possible from this precious and scarce vineyard resource.
