Overview

Skillogalee has been making Sparkling Riesling since 1987. The fruit is 100% hand-picked Riesling from low yielding vines growing at just under 500m above sea level on our own vineyards near Sevenhill in the picturesque Clare Valley. Clare is, of course, renowned for its fine Riesling!

Winery Tasting Notes

The wine was traditionally made with a secondary, bottle fermentation and was aged on its yeast lees for around 20 months before being disgorged.

Aroma

The nose is quite yeasty with plenty of fruit.

Palate

The palate is full, soft and flavoursome with a crisp, clean dry finish. There is plenty of fizz and the bead is quite small and of medium persistency. This current release has already started to mellow gracefully, and will continue to do so for several years to come, yielding those hints of honey and toast which are typical of mature Riesling.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Skillogalee has a small modern, winery, crushing only around 250 tonnes, giving us the opportunity to hand-make individual wines in small batches. Fruit handling and vinification are undertaken using the best of traditional and modern technologies - modern winemaking techniques for whites, to preserve the fruit aromas and flavours, and more traditional techniques for reds - the use of open fermenters and basket pressing to maximise flavour and colour without over-extraction. We focus heavily on gentle fruit handling throughout and our winery hygiene programs are meticulous. In this way, we use the minimum amount of sulphur to keep wines safe from spoilage.
