Overview

At Skimstone we specialise in vibrant food friendly wines – in particular the Italians – Sangiovese and Barbera.

We are back to the basics; a family run vineyard producing wine that is all about maximising the flavour of the fruit.

All Skimstone’s wines are made from our vineyard at Apple Tree Flat which has a unique terroir, giving Skimstone the ability to stand out from the crowd.

Our Multi-award winning Barbera comes from a small patch of vine picked as late as possible to allow the wine to be made on the vine for maximum fruit intensity. The grapes were cold-soaked, naturally fermented and then basket-pressed in the classic Italian style.

Winery Tasting Notes

Aroma & Palate

The result, says Skimstone’s Josh Clementson “is a very exciting Barbera with intense fruit – dark berries and currants – and a rich red colour. It’s low in tannins, high in alcohol, yet silky smooth.” Consider teaming this wine with a slow-roasted veal shoulder with lemon & garlic.
