Scotchmans Hill is located on an extinct volcano named Mount Bellarine. Thick, black and fertile volcanic soils of black clay with basalt subsoil lend individual and intense characters to the wines.
- VIC - Geelong
Destemmed, 5-day cold soak, wild-fermented for 7 days at 28?C, matured in new and used French barriques for 16 months. The deep, intense colour hoists the battle colours of an extremely powerful shiraz that nonetheless is not extractive, nor with dead fruit; blackberry compote, licorice, tar, spice and pepper are all on parade on the full-bodied palate. The longer you give it, the better it will be. Rating 96 - James Halliday, Australia Wine Companion - March 2015
Winery Tasting Notes
This wine displays a complex and rich nose with typical cool climate characters of dark fruits, plums and black cherries.
This is a rich and full flavoured Shiraz delivering complex savoury characters. Dark fruits and red plum flavours, spice and licorice with a touch of briar and a charry oak finish. The wine is supported by firm acid and fine grained tannins which give it length, balance and structure. This elegant wine will cellar well over the next 5 to 8 years.
