Making great wine requires faith and patience. Faith in the abilities of loyal growers, in those that make the wine, and in the fruit itself. It requires patience in order to understand vineyards over a number of vintages and a willingness to accept you don’t always get it right. It also takes patience to watch a wine that you know you can sell tomorrow, sit in an oak barrel for two years.

The Reward pays homage to all those who work with St Hallett and is a reward for their faith and patience in the pursuit of making great wine.

Expert Reviews

Cabernet doesn't always shine in the Barossa Valley as well as it does here, particularly if your perception is bedded in cool Aus regions; here savoury tannins run through blackcurrant fruit, with touches of forest, leaf and leather all hanging together well. Rating 94 - Drink by 2027 - James HAlliday, Australian Wine Companion (AUG/2014)

Winery Tasting Notes

Showing classic Cabernet Sauvignon varietal aromas of earthy blackberry and a subtle undertone of aniseed.

The outstanding conditions of the 2012 vintage have been favorable to this variety with a balanced palate that opens with rich blackcurrant before finishing with spicy cinnamon, clove and nutmeg flavours. A soft leafiness and fine grain tannin provide great length.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

In the heart of the Barossa Valley, Australia’s best known wine region, lies St Hallett, one of the country’s premier wine producers. Established by the Lindner Family in 1944, for many years St Hallett’s winemaking focus was, like many local wineries, on producing fortified wines. However during the seventies and eighties St Hallett turned to explore the true potential of the Barossa through premium table wines. This has resulted in St Hallett’s elevation as one of Australia’s best producers.

St Hallett is renowned for crafting full-flavored, textured wines entirely from Barossa Valley fruit and is credited with producing benchmark wines of the region such as the iconic St Hallett Old Block Shiraz, made from vines aged up to 100 years old.
