McLaren Vales First Greco, this fruit is 100% grown here on the foothills of Sellicks.

Perfectly suited to our climate, this white produces a really versatile Food friendly wine, which makes it just that little bit harder to leave alone…. I can’t help myself. Stick it in the ice-box on a warm Spring/Summer day or drink at room temperature when the celcius is a little lower. Our Gift to you.

Grays Tasting Panel Review

I really like this Greco. It is not something you see very often in Australia, Greco is a white grape variety from Campagna, south of Italy, and this wine is for those who like rich, complex, savoury white wine like oaked Chardonnay or Viognier. Medium gold in colour. Attractive aromas of warm ripe yellow fruits such as peach and yellow nectarine. It has nutty character that is reminiscent of fino sherry, and a hint of sea spray.

Bone dry, the palate is generous and savoury, quite full body.It is yet very fresh, offering ruby grapefruit, pomegranate or preserved lemon tartness and the texture is fresh walnut. Long, deliciously savoury and mouthwatering finish.

I would drink this with fresh oyster, seafood tapas, or even with miso cod. Do not chill this wine too much to fully enjoy its complexity and richness. Rating 92, Yuko Frost, Wine Tasting Panel (NOV/2015)

Winery Profile

Some have wineries, but here at Sellicks Hill, we have “ The Shed “

When Paul first met his wife to be, Angela, it wasn’t long before he realised how important a role wine was in the life of his Italian born father-in-law to be, Modestino Piombo’s life.

Before too long Paul found himself riding shot-gun in Modestino (Steve’s) HZ Kingswood ute, on their way to Mclaren Vale to pick grenache that was to be brought back to surburban Adelaide to be turned into wine.

These antics took place in Steves work Shed and it is from there the winemaking duo were to spark a great relationship both with each other but also with Grapes, Wine and Sheds.

Jump forward to today.

After purchasing the property at Sellicks Hill in Mclaren vale, that the Piombo family turned into a vineyard, it didn’t take the two wine nuts long to turn one of the Sheds into a micro Winery.

“The Shed” was born. Once the produce in the shed was found to be of excellent quality it wasn’t long before every mate, wine nut and general drunkard were to come calling. Tasting from barrel to barrel whilst pontificating over the merits of its contents became a regular event with visitors quite regularly finding themselves in a time-warp that would eat away hours with only the dreaded phone call from the missus brining the ritual to an end.
