Typically it shows a pink grapefruit character, concentration and mid-palate texture, which reflect the low yields and hand harvesting during the small window of perfect ripeness.

Has a bit going on, but kind of sotto voce. Youthful banana, vanilla florals, thistle and subdued tropical fruit. Light and fresh, lovely purity of acidity and flavour, light chalkiness, good length with a lime and passionfruit twang in the aftertaste. Good to drink. Excellent release. Shaw + Smith 2014 sauvignon blanc does its thing from the outset, vibrant, lifted and exciting aromas, as if you’ve mashed together the variety’s familiar passionfruits and more distinctive house-styled pink grapefruits, resulting in great zing and tang as it hits the tongue, fresh, zesty and punchy with a cute little bubblegum moment on the palate before pithy minerality. The wine is olive green-tinted straw and has passionfruit aromas. Crisp kiwifruit flavour zips onto the front of the palate and gooseberry, lime and flint characters chime in on the middle palate. Mineral-edged acid refreshes at the finish. Food: Vietnamese spring rolls Score: 4.5 points - John Lewis - Newcastle Herald - 30 July, 2014
Twenty-five vintages on, this is still one of the benchmarks for Aussie sauvignon blanc, with tropical, citrus and restrained grassy characters on the nose and palate and a crisp acid finish. Enjoy by itself or with fresh seafood. Mike Frost - Frost on the Vine, Courier Mail Brisbane - 8 August 2014
