Overview

Cabernet Sauvignon is Coonawarra’s pre-eminent variety and has long flourished in the district’s unique terra rossa soil.

Parcels of premium fruit were selected, fermented and then aged in French oak barriques to produce this expressive and richly flavoured wine.

So far, I’m enjoying the style of the 2010 vintage Coonawarra wines. Tannin, oomph and density.

Black fruit, dark chocolate studded with mint, woody toasty spicy and nougat oak. Plush with fat ripe tannin and balanced acidity, it feels less forced than many from the region and made with some sensitivity. Rich dark fruit and chocolate flavours with glimmers of raspberry, tobacco and dried herb – not a sweet tasting wine – amen. Much to like here and if the DIAM cork holds up well, a good future in the cellar. Rating 93 - drink 2014 - 2020 - Gary Walsh, Wine Front (AUG/2012)

Aroma

The bouquet displays beautiful berry and violet flower aromas combined with spicy cedar box and soothing cocoa from wellintegrated oak.

Palate

At the forefront of the palate lively dark red and purple fruit burst in the mouth. These concentrated fruity flavours along with rich chocolate and spicy cinnamon make up a delectable and balanced wine which appeals to all senses.

The intense flavours and strong mouthwatering tannins run the length of the palate and make this wine incredibly smooth.

Cellaring

This wine is offering great vibrancy and freshness now, but will also develop beautifully with age.

Peter Riddoch Rymill, the elder son of John and Eleanor Rymill, was born in 1940. A keen equestrian like his father, he competed in California and Ireland, retiring after he won the Australian Show Jumping Championship in 1965.

Peter married international Three Day Eventer and Show Jumper Judith Ritchie in 1964, and horses continued to play an integral role in their competitive and farming lives.

Peter and Judy diversified into viticulture in 1968 with an experimental vineyard, and six years later the family enterprise returned to Coonawarra when planting began on the Rymill Coonawarra Vineyards.

While Judy managed the farm, Peter completed a degree in Wine Science and a diploma in Wine Marketing before he began building the winery in 1990.

Here, the vision so characteristic of his great-grandfather, John Riddoch, and his father, John Rymill, is evident. And now, with his son John and daughter Lisa, a new generation is already involved, and the Riddoch Rymill family tradition continues.
