The 2004 Brut Vintage from Pol Roger is made from the traditional house vintage blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay from 20 Grands and Premiers Crus vinyeard in the Montagne de Reims and the Cote des Blanc. Produced only in limited quantities the Brut Vintage 2004 has been aged for 8 years in our cellars before being disgorged and released onto the market.
Round, ripe peach and lemon with some rich autolytic aromas and suggestions of other exciting ingredients including fresh ginger. It has the fullness, balance, poise, focus and length that I would wish to find in a top-drawer Champagne. Rating 93 Drink 2016–2024 Decanter (JAN/2014)
Appearance
The wine displays a very attractive white gold colour, it is bright and full of intensity with a continuous thread of delicate lingering bubbles.
Palate
The nose, mineral, elegant and complex, deilvers notes of white flowers and fresh quinces.
Palate
the attack on the palate revals an intense and refined liveliness. Delicate toasted flavours of acacia honey and pear enhance the balance and complexity of the wine without detracting from its delicacy. The long and steady aftertaste highlights delicious notes of citrus fruit (fresh grapefruit).
Food Pairing
A pure delight of a Champagne to be savoured by itself or as an aperitif with foie gras on toasted brioche fingers. It is also the undisputed partner of rich dishes such as chicken supreme with chanterelle mushrooms or sweetbreads cooked with morels.
Founded by Pol Roger in 1849 and succeeded by his sons, Maurice and Georges. Now into the fourth generation with Christian Pol Roger and Cristian de Billy at the helm the house now owns around 85 hectares, mostly around Epernay including Grand Crus Cramant, Chouilly and Avize on the Cotes de Blancs and Ambonnay, Bouzy & Verzy on the Montagne de Reims. Generally Pinot dominant, the range of wines from the Non-Vintage cuvées through to the stellar Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill show consistency of house style and a pedigree that is the envy of many other grand marques.
