Winery Tasting Notes

Aroma

Luscious cherry and blackberry aromas greet the nose, wrapped with chocolate and vanilla. Underlying spicy, peppery and tobacco notes abound that distinguish Shiraz from our region. The spice element isn't to the fore however, though will probably become more pronounced with time.

Palate

A silky , textural palate with not a thing out of place, layered complexity, firm powder tannins and long berry flavours coated with lingering spicy cherry flavours. The palate has a sprightly feel reflecting the cooler growing conditions. A classic Mount Barker Shiraz with a long life a head.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Plantagenet takes its name not only from its home, but also from its heritage. In 1968 in a stroke of serendipity English migrant Tony Smith, himself a descendent of the Plantagenet's, invested his small inheritance in a farm called Bouverie in Western Australia’s Plantagenet Shire.

He first planted Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon followed by Riesling three years later.

The first wines from these young vines were tight and lean and showed the elegant spice and fruit characters for which this area was to become known.
