Chardonnay is sourced primarily from our Wyjup and Bouverie vineyards, planted during the 70’s and our Crystal Brook vineyard. All are planted with the Gin Gin clone which produces small berries and bunches of intense flavour and high natural acidity due to its low yielding nature. Planted on free draining gravel soils, vertically trained with shoot thinning to allow dappled sunlight filtration into the canopy for optimal ripening.

Winery Tasting Notes

A classic and elegant cool climate Chardonnay with lemon curd and white peach flavours. A touch of savoury oak on the palate with the full, creamy palate is balanced by a line of mineral acidity, which give freshness and length to finish.

This vintage in particular shows a capacity to age gracefully over time and will reward careful cellaring.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

Plantagenet takes its name not only from its home, but also from its heritage. In 1968 in a stroke of serendipity English migrant Tony Smith, himself a descendent of the Plantagenet's, invested his small inheritance in a farm called Bouverie in Western Australia’s Plantagenet Shire.

He first planted Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon followed by Riesling three years later.

The first wines from these young vines were tight and lean and showed the elegant spice and fruit characters for which this area was to become known.
