This amber nectar is a real treat and a rarity. It is made in a Vin Santo style - a 'holy wine' from Italy. It is an amber-coloured, luscious dessert wine made from grapes that have been dried on straw mats under the rafters, in the hottest and best-ventilated part of the peasant home. Vin Santo is often served with biscotti cookies that may be dunked into the wines.
- VIC - King Valley
Made from trebbiano grown in Northeast Victoria, matured in used oak until Jan '12, the name 'for the angels' referring to the evaporative loss over the six years' maturation. It has become immensely complex, gleaming gold in colour, and gloriously rich and vibrant, with toffee, cumquat, honey and citrus flavours. Rating 95 - Drink by 2020 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion (JAN/2013)
Winery Tasting Notes
It smells of chocolate, burnt toffee, honey and grilled nuts; very savoury alluring rancio notes here.
The palate echoes the aromatics showing concentrated flavours of caramel and spice forming a smooth, luscious texture and a very, long, slow-burning finish. Christmas pudding in a glass!
